Wikipedia Trail: From "The Maltese Falcon to The Crusades
For the Wikipedia Trail I decided to do the reading by Dashiell Hammett chapter 6 from "The Maltese Falcon” On Wikipedia it first started to say how the Maltese Falcon is a 1930 detective novel in the main character is Sam Spade a private detective in San Francisco. As you start to read more they start to tell you about the other characters like Joel Cairo a homosexual and Effie and Gutman other characters who are also in this novel. So as I was reading it said that young man was telling detective Spade about “Knights of Malta” as a gift to the king of Spain. So I clicked on Knights of Malta and it led me to “Knights Hospitaller” which stated “ The Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem (Latin: Ordo Fratrum Hospitalis Sancti Ioannis Hierosolymitani; Italian: Cavalieri dell'Ordine dell'Ospedale di San Giovanni di Gerusalemme), also known as the Order of Saint John, Order of Hospitallers, Knights Hospitaller, Knights Hospitalier or Hospitallers, was a medieval and early modern Catholic military order. It was headquartered in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, on the island of Rhodes, in Malta and St Petersburg”.So because I didn't know much about military I clicked on “Military order”. Then it lead me to a link that said a “Military order is a chivalric order with military elements. Western military orders were originally established as Catholic religious societies; the first orders originated during the medieval Crusades with the stated purpose of protecting Christians against violent persecution by Islamic conquests in the Holy Land, which later evolved into serving as a standing army that defended the Kingdom of Jerusalem”. I thought this was very interesting because when I clicked on Military order I thought it was going to say like a regular order that was given by the military but in the text says that this is a religious order. So getting a little more Curious in a little more deeper I decided to click on the “Crusades” because I started to think a little more of how the Crusades got involved with this and it said that “The Crusades were a series of religious wars sanctioned by the Latin Church in the medieval period”.Now I know what the Crusades are but the funny thing is when doing this assignment the more you cook on different leads to further out it takes you. I went from a novel straight to the Crusades how crazy is that I've never thought to do this ever before.
