Favorite Place
My favorite place overall would have to be South Korea. No I've never been to South Korea but I always wanted to go visit there because in the future that's where I plan on living and working. I always knew that I wanted to be an English major and become an English teacher but I always wanted to teach outside of an English speaking country. I thought it would be fun to teach other people English and literature. As a kid growing up I always knew that I didn't want to live in America for the rest of my life I wanted to travel and live somewhere abroad. First I always thought that I would live in a Hispanic country because Spanish was the second language I was exposed to so I thought to myself “why not learn Spanish?”. However when I entered Elementary School I met this young girl named Jenny Zhu she was Chinese and we became best friends. So soon after you could probably guess I wanted to learn Chinese so before I entered High School I studied a little bit of Chinese so that I wouldn't go into the class not knowing anything. Then my freshman year through my junior year I took Chinese and learned a lot about the culture and the language and how the writing system became to be. The Chinese calligraphy is so beautiful and the food is great. I studied really hard and got the basics of Chinese down. But soon after there wasn't a Chinese 4 class at Heritage High School so I decided to study Chinese on my own. One day when I was sitting in my room I was listening to some Chinese music and I happened to come across a song by a group called 'TVXQ' and the song was called “Rising Sun”. I couldn't understand any of what they were saying and soon after I realize they weren't speaking Chinese so I did my research and I learned they were a Korean K-pop group. This was the first time that I was ever exposed to the Korean language. The language sounded so beautiful a mesmerizing. Then another K-Pop group that I had came across was called 'Mblaq' and I happen to fall in love with one of the members his name was Lee Joon. So like a fangirl I was I decided to look up everything he appeared in. There was a TV show called “Jungle Fish 2” on YouTube that he starred in so I watched it and as I kept watching it I fell more in love with the language and him. One day while I was listening to a song by TVXQ there was a video of a girl called “Why I moved to Korea”. My first thoughts were this girl is crazy because who would ever want to move to Korea but after watching the video I realized that Korea is not such a bad place. So I got to watching more and more of her videos over the months and I came across a video of her talking about how she's learning Korean and she stated in her videos that the Korean language has an alphabet which I found very pleasing because I thought “ Wow Korean has an alphabet like English kinda so let me learn Korean instead”. Since that day forth I've been studying Korean all the time and yes it is a little hard because the language has different ways you can say things but I still love it. While I was learning Korean and watching Megan Bowen videos I came across another K-pop group called BTS and they are my ultimate favorite K-Pop group till this day. So South Korea overall is my favorite place because it is the birthplace of BTS and the culture and the language seems to fit me and I happen to really like it. What I want readers to know about this place is how amazing it is because on the news you don't really hear a lot about South Korea you hear a lot about North Korea and how bad it is so some people just put this label on Korea as this terrible place in which it isn't. South Korea is a wonderful place and I can't wait to go there someday. This place is so significant in me because I know for sure South Korea is my future and I would love for other people to explore it and understand their ways and how they do things culturally.
